3 New Printing Technology in Japan

1. Micro Printing

The tiny book featured on this clip is 0.95mm by 0.95mm, though the book might seem useless, this technology enables countries like Japan to produce a new paper currencies that are harder to counterfeit. The application for this technology is limitless.

2. 3D Printer

The examples shown in this video include a life-like reproduction of a melon and a model of a house (including the interior of the building!). At a price of just under 40 thousand dollars, this printer makes color 3D printing accessible to everyone.

3. D-Touch Pen

This technology is one of my favorite, it involves two separate technology, the first one is the print technology which is invisible to the naked eye, which can be used to send data or instruction to another device such as the D-Touch Pen, which reads the fine print on the paper and sends the data into a device which in turns provide information on what the location in the paper are. This is a very interesting discovery, where in a new breed of input device has been developed which makes use of paper or other tangible things a new set of computer per say.

Naruto Shippuuden - The Movie

It was on August 13, 2007 together with my friend, we watch the 4th Naruto movie. We decided to go to TOHO Cinema at Nijo in Kyoto. This is my first time to watch a movie in Japan, and my first time to watch Naruto on cinema, anyway we got the 10:45AM showing when we bought the tickets.

Surprisingly we did get a freebie bracelet during the time we get tickets, actually my friend and I are talking that the night before when he checked TOHO’s website, according to the website the next 60,000 persons to watch will get the freebie bracelet, apparently we are lucky to be on that lists.

The movie was great, but I do slept a couple of minutes during rock lee’s fight (I guess I was tired the other night). The animation in this movie was good, fight scenes such as with Neiji and Sakura was my favorite. So that was my Naruto movie watching experience. My friend bought the movie magazine after the show, luckily there was a free naruto card, and I did get that one off him.

Akihabara Electric Town City

Akihabara - Filipino Programmer
During my stay here in Tokyo I was very happy that finally I will be able to go and see Akihabara. Akihabara is one of the unique places here in Japan. Akihabara is located on the eastern side of the central Chiyoda ward. The area houses thousands of shops selling every technological gadget you can imagine, from computers to PlayStations and vacuums to DVDs, at reasonable prices. This area is also known as the “Gamer’s Mecca” and has in recent times become strongly identified with anime/manga (cartoon) subculture, with the legions of otaku geeks traipsing down on weekends known as Akiba-kei. This was one of my favorite places in Tokyo. In weekend, especially Sunday where the whole area’s roads are temporarily closed for vehicles, this place is very crowded. You will see people walking on every side of the road, Cosplayers either singing or posing for other people to take a shot of their own.

Otaku culture in Akihabara represents one aspect of the people who shop and ‘hang out’ there in the recent years. Some people there have unique lifestyles, centered on technological enterprises and an obsession for Anime/Manga, that have made them outsiders in other sections of Japanese society. These otaku are given the chance to gather here and to meet others who share their specific interests. Akihabara is currently seen as one of the shopping districts that represents a ‘mecca’ of sorts for otaku, as well as to the term Akiba-kei, or Akiba-type.

Recently, with increased exposure of “otaku” culture in the Japanese media, new buildings, and the opening of another new railway line, Akihabara has seen a boom in popularity and is a popular destination for many young people interested in its unique atmosphere. Akihabara’s latest boom is maid cafes, where pretty girls dressed up as French maids serve you drinks and dote on you, some going as far as to spoon-feed you.

Akihabara is also perhaps the last stronghold in the world for classic arcade gaming. Although arcades are still everywhere in Japan, and more so in Tokyo, the concentration (and skill of play) is especially high in Akihabara. The huge towers of Sega, Taito and others can’t be missed, but places like “Hey Arcade” (on Chuo Dori) have entire floors dedicated to shooting games (think Galaga) and fighting games (think Tekken). Recommended for a nostalgic trip back to the eighties, and to check out the pros.

On a more classic note, Akihabara also has its own temple site, to the left off of Chuo Dori as you walk towards Ueno. It is mostly noteworthy for the festival it organizes around May. On this occasion, a massive shrine is traditionally carried through the streets of Akihabara, providing an interesting contrast with all the high-tech to say the least.

Sasazuka

Today, my officemate Jeda and Chaq, went to Sasazuka. I had my first hair cut on Japan on this place, a 15 minute drive by bus from Honancho. Sasazuka is where our office was first situated after moving to Kugayama where it is today.

After the haircut, we tried to buy some crêpe. This is also my first time to eat this. It was delicious. I will definitely come back and buy this.

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office (Tocho)

During Golden Week, I had the opportunity to go to one of Tokyo’s largest entertainment, business, shopping wards and home to many of tallest buildings, Shinjuku. In Shinjuku’s skyscraper district lies the Metropolitan Government Office. Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office is 243 meters tall and are twin towers, the surrounding buildings contain the offices and assembly hall of the metropolitan government of Tokyo, as well as the North and South observatories found at the 45th floor of the building. These observatory decks are open to the public for free.
